How to treat infections effectively

It is important to start treating the infection as soon as the first symptoms appear. The irritating itch, redness and soreness will disappear but the treatment needs to be completed as recommended to make sure the infection is cleared and does not reoccur.

The feet hygiene is of paramount importance to prevent re-infection:

• Feet need to be dried thoroughly after shower/bath
• No towel sharing
• Avoid walking barefoot in public pool areas, gyms and changing rooms

The Canesten range for athlete’s foot is a family of effective, easy-to-use treatments for athlete's foot. Canesten Bifonazole Once Daily Cream contains a unique active antifungal agent called bifonazole. It penetrates into the deeper layers of the skin and stays there working for 24-36 hours after application. That's why it is sufficient to use it only once a day to effectively treat the infection. Canesten AF Dual Action Cream contains an anti-fungal agent called clotrimazole that works reliably and quickly to inhibit the growth of the fungus enabling the skin to repair itself and return to its original, pre-infected state. Clotrimazole also has anti-bacterial properties, giving the secondary benefit of killing certain bacteria which can cause the feet to smell. Canesten Hydrocortisone additionally contains Hydrocortisone, an anti-inflammatory to reduce the soreness and irritation of inflamed athlete’s foot. It is to be used for a maximum of 7 days.

It is important to check your feet regularly because, despite being called athlete's foot, anyone can get it and it's actually very common. Some people leave their athlete's foot alone in the hope that it may vanish, but unfortunately without proper treatment this is not likely to happen and the infection may in fact become inflamed and painful.

Canesten Bifonazole Once Daily Cream should be applied to the area only once a day for 2-3 weeks. Canesten AF Dual Action Cream should be applied by gently rubbing it into the area 2-3 times a day. The recommended treatment period is 3-4 weeks.

Canesten Hydrocortisone is available from your pharmacy and should be thinly applied twice daily to the affected parts and rubbed in gently. It should not be used for more than seven days.
