Treat the causes and the symptoms with Canesten

What is ring worm?

Ringworm is not actually a worm at all but is an infection of the skin caused by a fungus.

The fungi that cause ringworm can enter the body through a scratch or a cut or if you have broken skin. Animals can have ringworm and can pass it on to humans if they come into contact, and humans can also pass it to each other through contact.

The appearance of ringworm is often a round, red or silvery patch of skin which may be scaly and itchy. The ring spreads outwards as it progresses and the centre may heal and go back to a normal colour. There may be several patches and the skin may become raised and blistered.

Antifungal creams are usually effective in treating ringworm on the body. Canesten Cream contains a powerful antifungal agent which inhibits the growth of the fungus, allowing the skin to heal and return to its normal state.

It is best to take your pet to the vet if you suspect it might have ringworm – ensure your pet is treated quickly and you will be less likely to contract it yourself.

If a pet or member of your family has ringworm, check the rest of the family carefully for signs of the infection.

Avoid sharing towels, bedding or clothing with a person who has ringworm and try to avoid contact with the infected area.

If you have ringworm, try to avoid touching other areas of your body when you have touched the infected area and be sure to wash your hands.

Canesten creams, spray and powder contain clotrimazole. Always read the label.
